Dr. Karanam will talk about the failing heart and what medical & surgical procedures are available to help these patients. Featured Vitamin of the Month: Vitamin C



Vitamin C is a vitamin that’s not naturally synthesized by the body. There are three routes that vitamin C can be administered, orally, by IV solution, and topically. As a supplement taken by mouth, vitamin C is recommended at 500 to 1000 mg per day.


Vitamin C and Your Skin

Vitamin C has a strong association with the aging process, skin diseases, and certain skin cancers through oxidative properties.


Question: Why is vitamin C good for the skin?

Answer: It decreases melanin synthesis, It has antioxidant properties, Helps prevent solar skin damage, Helps maintain skin integrity, and Helps prevent skin aging.


Question: How does Vitamin C affect the skin of African Americans (pigmented skin) and are the health benefits the same?
